Though I wonder if there is are many skaters living or dead, who could live up to all these objectives at cross-purposes:
1) the boundary-pushing skater under COP (that already capitalizes on a "rare" body shape for Senior level),
2) via an unrefined, "wild" talent absorbing in 1+ years the needed basic skills/transitions to "flesh out" demands of 1),
3) the aesthetic ideals of of all things glorious about pre-COP, which Hanyu already based on the wayward potentials of Weir's fundamentals,
4) growth of the intangibles of "skating to lights-out" under the weight of 1) & 2), which inadvertently correlates with the points structure of COP that views skating as a sport of wringing from blood and guts into glory.
That said, after enough resignation over R&J vers. 2, and accepting at least the minor progress as a result of balancing these conflicting goals, vers. 1 in a recent revisit suddenly seemed to impress more as nostalgia - as its virtues was would never pose any threat to PChiddy, thus not warranting the Hanyu-Orser alliance under COP in the first place.
Finally it probably helps to view Hanyu not as a combination of his personal ambition and mixed talents, but as an inagural experiment among himself, Orser and esp Wilson for the male competitor under COP - with which none of these three men had prior experience nor result of a better model to emulate. IOW, the perfect skater combining COP and pre-COP ideals, would have to be the biggest challenge to Hanyu, in a similar way he "dethroned" PChiddy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1382436146860017151.post-38337237016164169802014-02-25T06:58:40.805-05:002014-02-25T06:58:40.805-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.hanksafrehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03635422579267201617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1382436146860017151.post-1315286389073624502014-02-11T16:44:06.603-05:002014-02-11T16:44:06.603-05:00Yuzuru is barely 19 though. (Or nearly any, his LP this season....)
I wish he'd try another choreographer, and maybe, with hopefully at least 4 next seasons coming up for him, he will. But honestly, he has time. It's not as if there were so many other great skaters around right now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1382436146860017151.post-66269653381339651702014-02-11T15:13:24.747-05:002014-02-11T15:13:24.747-05:00I left out a sentence oops. What I meant in the beginning was that the long programs (for me at least) have been largely disappointing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1382436146860017151.post-9151659697863405422014-02-11T15:10:03.612-05:002014-02-11T15:10:03.612-05:00I agree, I would have rather him go back to R+J 1... I agree, I would have rather him go back to R+J 1.0, there was a lot more fire in that one. His short is still great. I love Mao, but the only time I pay attention to her long is in the step sequence. I am meh to Yuna's as well, she's had way better. Akiko needs to go back to her "O" program. I still do love Carolina's Bolero. I already know I'm going to get shit for this, but I expected more from Dai's long. I can't with the Beatles.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
