The glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child

THE ICE 2011 Mao Asada 浅田真央 EX by

This exhibition program makes me believe that Mao Asada's skating can cure cancer, bring world peace and even wipe away the United States' $14-trillion debt.

  1. i agree she really portrays the music so well... she really has some sort of magic that i can't put my finger on, i just hope that the judges well also see her magic and give her the marks that she deserves, i really look forward to the new season where mao will be in better condition..

  2. welcome back! her program is lovely, isn't it? i think that if she chose this as her a competitive program, she would definitely win high marks.

  3. You're back!! I totally agree...this is Mao at her ethereal, balletic best. If she looks like this during the whole season, it'll be very fun to watch.

  4. I wanted to do my own post on this program, but my words could not do it justice. It left me speechless - it's too bad about the stumble towards the beginning, but she makes you forget about it by the end. Hopefully she can bring some of this to her competitive programs this season.

  5. She follows up the masterpiece of "Ballade" with a similarly moving and breathtaking piece...this girl has a gift for creating a mood when it comes to exhibition skating. Not since The Kwan have I been so utterly entranced by exhibition skates. Mao's are the only ones I feel the need to revisit time and time again.

Most skaters throw on some sequins and shorts and bounce around to pop music without ever really putting an effort behind creating a mood or a moment. I'm grateful Mao is not that kind of skater. She puts forth the effort and it's magical to witness...

Now if only she'd put that same effort into her competitive pieces...

  6. This isn't as well choreographed as Ballade, IMO, but Mao is naturally exquisite and is showing her "heart" like never before. I could watch Mao do whatever she pleased (ok, except her SP last year) and still feel like I was watching something ethereal and special.
